Students for 60,000 was founded in 1987. It was given its name for the estimated 60,000 homeless people living in New York City at the time. As the number of student members increased, so has the club's impact. Last year, with the support of the nearby communities, we raised close to $100,000 and this year we are on track to raise even more. This money has been used to fund important projects in our local community, in New York City, nationally, and internationally. However, students for 60,000 is much more than a fundraising organization. Its most important mission is to get Northport High School students to share their knowledge, friendship, and compassion with those who are less fortunate, locally and throughout the world.
